Description

A dense, sweet traditional street treat made from mashed bananas, ground roasted peanuts, and rice flour wrapped in banana leaves and steamed.

Presentation & How It's Eaten

Unwrapped from banana leaves, sliced into thick rounds, and eaten warm or at room temperature as a snack or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas, thoroughly mashed

  • 1.5 cups roasted peanuts, finely ground

  • 1.5 cups rice flour

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup warm water (if needed)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Banana leaves (or parchment paper), for wrapping

Step-by-Step Directions

  1. Make Dough: In a large bowl, combine mashed bananas, ground peanuts, rice flour, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Knead into a thick, moldable dough.

  2. Prep Leaves: Soften banana leaf sheets over an open flame for a few seconds to make them pliable.

  3. Wrap Cake: Place dough in the center of banana leaf, roll tightly into a log, and tie ends securely with kitchen twine.

  4. Steam: Place wrapped log into a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover and steam for 1.5 hours until firm. Slice to serve.

Optional

  • Honey Drizzle: Drizzle individual slices with raw honey right before eating.

Cooking Tips

  • Grinding peanuts until they release their natural oils helps bind the dense banana-rice dough properly.
