Prep time: 10 mins Cook time: 15 mins (plus 3 days crystallization) Total time: 3 days 25 mins Servings: 6 sticks Country of origin: Afghanistan Description: Nabat is saffron-infused rock candy crystallized on wooden skewers, enjoyed alone or stirred into green tea. Presentation: Served on wooden skewers in glass jars or alongside tea cups. Ingredients: 2 cups granulated sugar 1 cup water 1/2 tsp saffron threads 6 wooden skewers Step-by-step directions: Heat water and sugar in a saucepan, stirring until sugar completely dissolves into a thick syrup. Stir saffron threads into hot syrup and remove pan from heat source. Dip wooden skewers into syrup, roll in extra granulated sugar, and let dry completely. Pour warm saffron syrup into a tall glass jar and suspend sugar-coated skewers inside without touching sides. Cover jar loosely and place in a warm room for 3-5 days until large sugar crystals grow on skewers. Remove skewers from syrup, drain excess liquid, and let dry on wax paper. Optional variations: Omit saffron for clear sugar rock candy sticks. Cooking tips: Coating skewers in sugar before placing in jar gives crystals a surface to start growing on. Nutrition facts:
