Description: Small, bite-sized golden dough balls fried until crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, soaked in honey syrup.
Presentation: Piled high on a platter, drizzled with warm honey, ground cinnamon, and chopped walnuts or sesame seeds.
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
1 cup lukewarm water
1/2 cup lukewarm milk
1 tbsp sugar
1 pinch salt
Vegetable oil for frying
1/2 cup honey, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 cup walnuts for topping
Step-by-step directions:
Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water and milk; let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
Mix flour and salt in a bowl, then stir in the yeast mixture until a smooth batter forms.
Cover and rest in a warm spot for 1 hour until doubled in size.
Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
Drop spoonfuls of batter into hot oil and fry until golden brown, turning frequently.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Drizzle generously with warm honey, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts before serving.
Optional variations: Top with melted chocolate or powdered sugar.
Cooking tips: Wet your spoon or hands with water to prevent the wet batter from sticking when dropping into oil.
