A warm street food favorite featuring mini sweet bread loaves baked with a whole fresh egg cooked right on top, creating a sweet and savory contrast.

Presentation & How It's Eaten

Served warm straight out of oven molds in paper boats. Eaten out of hand as a filling winter breakfast or afternoon street food snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/3 cup sugar

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1 egg (for batter)

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 2 tbsp melted butter

  • 6 fresh whole eggs (for tops)

  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese or chopped ham (optional)

  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Step-by-Step Directions

  1. Make Batter: Whisk 1 egg, milk, sugar, salt, and melted butter together. Fold in flour and baking powder until a smooth pancake-like batter forms.

  2. Prep Molds: Grease 6 oval mini-loaf pans or large muffin tins thoroughly with butter.

  3. Fill Molds: Divide sweet batter evenly among molds, filling them about 1/3 full.

  4. Add Whole Egg: Crack 1 whole egg carefully onto batter in each mold cavity (keep yolk intact). Sprinkle with pinch of salt, shredded cheese, and parsley.

  5. Bake: Bake in preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 18–20 minutes until egg white sets and bread turns golden brown. Serve hot.

Cooking Tips

  • Prick Egg Yolks: Prick each egg yolk once lightly with a toothpick before baking to prevent steam buildup from popping yolk during cooking.
