Ingredients:
3 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp orange juice
1 tbsp cognac or brandy
Vegetable oil for deep frying
1 cup honey, 1/2 cup water, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (for syrup/topping)
Step-by-step directions:
Whisk eggs, sugar, orange juice, and cognac; gradually knead in flour to form a smooth dough.
Rest dough covered for 30 minutes.
Roll dough into paper-thin sheets and cut into 3x8-inch rectangles.
Drop strips into hot oil (360°F/180°C) and quickly roll into cylinders using two forks as dough expands.
Fry until light golden; drain on paper towels.
Boil honey and water for 3 minutes; dip fried ribbons briefly in warm syrup.
Sprinkle with ground cinnamon and walnuts.
Optional variations: Dust with cocoa powder along with cinnamon.
Cooking tips: Dough must be rolled ultra-thin to create airy, crispy bubbles during frying.
