Description

  • Beloved everyday Guatemalan frozen street snack made from ripe bananas skewered on wooden sticks, frozen, and dipped into melted chocolate that hardens instantly.

Presentation

  • Served frozen on wooden popsicles sticks, coated in chocolate and topped with sprinkles or chopped peanuts.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe medium bananas, peeled and cut in half crosswise

  • 200 g dark chocolate chips (or compound chocolate)

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil

  • 1/4 cup colorful sprinkles or chopped toasted peanuts

  • 8 wooden popsicle sticks

Directions

  • Insert a wooden stick into cut end of each banana half.

  • Lay skewered bananas on parchment paper and freeze for 2 hours until solid.

  • Melt chocolate chips and coconut oil together in microwave or double boiler until smooth.

  • Pour melted chocolate into a tall glass cup.

  • Dip frozen bananas into chocolate cup to coat completely; chocolate will harden quickly over cold banana.

  • Immediately roll in sprinkles or chopped peanuts before chocolate sets.

  • Store in freezer until ready to serve.

Optional Variations

  • Chocofresas: Replace bananas with large whole fresh strawberries.

Cooking Tips

  • Ensure bananas are fully frozen before dipping so chocolate shell sets instantly.
